APC Schemed Out As Saraki Emerges Senate President amidst Controversies

APC Schemed Out as Saraki, Ekweremadu Emerge President, VP of The Senate

Senator Bukola Saraki of Kwara Central District, on Tuesday emerged as the President of Nigeria’s 8th Senate as he was elected unopposed. The election was however characterized by a controversy as most members elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress were absent at the sitting. The Anchor Online gathered that they were in an emergency meeting summoned by the President.
Senator Saraki, a former Governor of Kwara State and son of Second Republic Senate Leader had 57 votes with no contender standing against him.
In a related development, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was elected for the third time as the Deputy President of the Senate. He defeated Senator Ali Ndume from Borno State to retain his position.
Unfolding events also saw former Senate President, David Bonaventure Mark becoming the Senate Leader
According to investigation by the Streetjournal, his is emergence followed his nomination as the sole candidate, while senator Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party was elected as the deputy Senate President.
It was apparent that Saraki’s emergence was not with the support of the All Progressive Congress Senators who had earlier voted Senator Ahmed Lawan as their choice of Senate President last Saturday at the international conference center.
